We celebrate the wonderful Emenes in today’s Photo of the Day, who was latterly owned by the late Jackie Keen who was a proof-reader for The Arabian Magazine for many years.

Sired by the Egyptian stallion Emiratus B (El Thay Mameluk x 223 Ibn Galal I-I, Emenes was out of Yasmena (Menes x Yakouta II). Bred by Bychan Arabians in Wales, Jackie fell for Emenes in 2003 when he was a ten-day-old colt. Emenes was a wonderful show horse. He won the Junior Male Champion, Junior Champion and Supreme Junior Champion titles at the Wessex Summer Show; the Egyptian-related Champion and Classic Head Champion at the UK Egyptian Event; and at the Emerald Egyptian Event at Belgium, Emenes was Junior Male Champion with the highest points of the show.

More importantly, Emenes was Jackie’s best friend, and he gave her the strength to carry on while she was fighting cancer. Sadly, Jackie passed away in 2009, but for those who knew her, her memory lives on.

Jackie, this one’s for you xx
