I am in charge of The Arabian Magazine and all that comes with it. My passion has always been writing and my primary
focus with each edition is ensuring that high-quality content is included in the magazine. In addition, I write a number of
articles for each edition myself, based on my many stud and show visits around the world.
Away from The Arabian Magazine, I am a regular writer for Arabian Essence, producing a monthly newsletter for them.
I have also had articles published in the AHS News, Absolute Horse Magazine, Oasis Online Magazine, the UK Crabbet
Journal, NS News, Arabian Studs and Stallions. I have been featured in the EDP Norfolk Magazine, Eastern Daily Press
and Oasis Online Magazine.
Prior to founding The Arabian Magazine, I worked for Aviva (Norwich Union) for many years in their central
communications department, interviewing people around the world for a global intranet and producing departmental
newsletters.
With my parents, I run Ivy Arabians (www.ivyarabians.com) in south Norfolk which specialises in Crabbet/Old English
bloodlines. We currently have eleven Arabians including the 100% Crabbet AHS Premium Mare Rosaliah Gold
(Golden Silver x Siala) and her daughter, the 2009 Reserve British National Champion Yearling Filly and 2011 British
National Champion Futurity Champion, Shams Al Thahabiyya (by Psadishio Ibn Esstashan). For more on our horses,
please visit our website.
Away from horses, I published progress, a collection of my own poetry and photographs, which is now in its third print
run. I am currently busy at work on a novel and hope to have the first draft completed by 2012. You can find out more

You can reach me at sam@thearabianmagazine.com. I attend many of the shows around the world, so come and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you.

Claire and her husband Mark have been involved in Arabian horses together since the year 2000 and together they
breed and show their horses of Emancy Arabians. Claire gained a Bachelor of Science degree with honours in
Design from Huddersfield University and before that a BTEC Diploma, also in Art and Design from Shrewsbury
College and Arts & Technology.
She has been a keen artist and designer from a very early age and in the last five or six years has been
successfully running her design company, 'Arabian Horse Promo', creating websites and promotional material for
stud farms and owners around the world (including this website for The Arabian Magazine) as well as Arabian
horse photography.
“I am very passionate about working with the terrific team at the magazine and being part of something so exciting
and boundary-pushing,” says Claire. “I have high hopes for the future of The Arabian Magazine and continue to
evolve plans to improve the features as well as design layout of the magazine to further enhance its position within
the international Arabian horse publication market.”

I was born into Arabians at the Vlacq Stud in North Wales, where our enthusiasm for breeding genuine and
versatile performance horses remains as strong as ever. While the stud is older than I am, the programme
rationale is unaltered with all of the foundation horses represented in our herd today. Among these are my first
pure-bred, Vlacq Aros, and my renegade part-bred (middle weight hunter), Vlacq Gearfea: both are now veterans
and have a lot to answer for! I am also partial to Anglo Arabs and have two homebred mares as well as plenty of
pure-breds to whom I have laid claim for the future. Having sampled most disciplines, I remain convinced that
Arabians are the ultimate equine; I like to believe that they have taught me well, and that everyone can learn
something from an Arab.
Although originally destined for medicine, I chose a different path with my English Literature degree from Leeds
University. I worked for a printing machinery manufacturer for three years before returning to where my passion lay.
My experience lies mostly in breeding and ridden training, and the journey from the former towards the latter.
Considered breeding can produce the soundness of body and mind; continuity of care and a broad education can
create true performance stars.
Writing for The Arabian Magazine has already allowed me to see into stud regimes, meet some very passionate characters and to explore new disciplines. The remarkable rapport often apparent between horse and rider never ceases to amaze me and so I am keen to celebrate all guises of the performance Arabian. Come to think of it, my new role as Deputy Editor at The Arabian Magazine is not dissimilar to my role at the stud; I hope to preserve the true essence of the original, while looking to the future.
