In 2004, The Arabian Magazine was founded by two women from Norfolk, UK. Over the coming months and years, the publication would take the world by storm and it is today regarded as one of the industry-leading magazines, read by people in all four corners of the globe.
From the very beginning, The Arabian Magazine had an international focus and as time went on,
so Samantha Mattocks, co-founder of the publication, travelled the world to not only promote the
magazine, but also report on the horses she found at shows and studs outside of the UK. Her
first main trip was to Talaria Farms in Georgia, USA, and a strong bond was formed between
the two groups. This trip was the first of many and it is through such travels that The Arabian
Magazine has been able to reach so many people on a global basis.
Always intended as a subscription-only magazine, The Arabian Magazine coverage is
supplemented by its being available at major shows across the world. From the US to Australia,
you will always find The Arabian Magazine on coffee tables and stall booths at shows around
the world.
In 2008, Samantha became the sole owner of The Arabian Magazine and it was at this time that
the publication stepped up to a new level. The decision to have an annual Collectors’ Edition, for
example, helped to cement the publication’s place in the Arabian industry.
As well as printing the magazine, Samantha and her team have also become involved in a
number of design roles. Close links with Jadem Arabians in Belgium, for example, have resulted in the production of beautiful brochures and a fantastic website, while in 2009, the magazine’s design for the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championships was chosen as the year’s theme, a huge honour for all involved.
2010 was a momentous year for the magazine as the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championships held their inaugural Media Awards, with The Arabian Magazine taking the runner-up prize in the International Media section.
As 2011 draws to a close, The Arabian Magazine is updating its online presence and expanded into a separate shop section, www.thearabianmagazineshop.com, which has already received a great response. While exciting plans for the future remain in place, Samantha never forgets the philosophy at the heart of the magazine, which was with her from the very beginning: to produce an accessible, highly-readable magazine which is open to everyone, be they a one-horse owner or a big farm.
We hope you enjoy the magazine and its websites, and we look forward to continuing the journey with you over the coming years.
